1. What Neosol DS is and what it is used for?
Neosol DS is a sterile, pyrogen free solution of Dextrose and Sodium Chloride in water for injections for intravenous administration. Each 100 ml of solution contains Dextrose Monohydrate equivalent to Dextrose Anhydrous BP 5.0 gm and Sodium Chloride BP0.45 gm. Neosol DS is indicated in water and sodium depletion. It provides Dextrose as a nutrient in a suitable medium of Sodium Chloride or it may also be employed as a source of Sodium Chloride. It is usually used in the maintenance and replacement of fluid, electrolyte and carbohydrate in patients who are unable to take fluid and nutrients by mouth e.g. in case of persistent vomiting, during and after surgery, shock or accidents.

2. Before you take Neosol DS
Do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if:

Neosol DS is contraindicated in patients with hypernatremia, acidosis, hypokalemia and fluid overload.

Take special care with Neosol DS
Check with your doctor before taking this medicine if:

As the preparation contains sodium chloride, it should be administered with caution to patients with congestive heart failure, peripheral or pulmonary edema and impaired renal function.

3. How to take Neosol DS?
Taking this medicine. Always use Neosol DS exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

How much to take?
The volume and rate of infusion of the solution depends on the clinical condition, age and body surface area of the patient and judgement of the physicians. Ordinarily, normal circulation is restored by infusing 20-30 ml/kg as rapidly as possible. The laboratory findings should be available by this time so that the physician can proceed more slowly with logically planned subsequent fluid therapy.

4. Possible side effects
General adverse effects of excess sodium in the body include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, thirst, reduced salivation, sweating, fever, hypertension, renal failure, peripheral & pulmonary edema, convulsion and coma. Prolonged administration or rapid infusion of glucose solution may cause edema and water intoxication.

Tell your doctor if any of the side effects gets serious or lasts longer than a few days, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet

5. How to store Neosol DS?
Neosol DS should be stored at controlled room temperature.
