Overview
5-ampoule pack of Amikacin 100mg for IV/IM use. Used for weight-based dosing in paediatric patients, neonates, or small adults. Amikacin is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside active against MDR Gram-negative bacteria. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and daily renal function assessment are mandatory throughout therapy.
Critical Diabetic Patient Warnings
- Nephrotoxicity: Any degree of diabetic kidney disease amplifies amikacin nephrotoxicity — monitor creatinine and eGFR every 24–48 hours
- Ototoxicity: Irreversible sensorineural hearing loss — audiometry for courses >7 days
- TDM: Peak 56–64 mg/L, trough <5 mg/L; dose-adjust accordingly
- Hydrate well before each dose to reduce nephrotoxicity risk
