Overview

Bisocor 2.5 mg Tablet contains Bisoprolol Fumarate, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is a cardioselective beta-1 blocker used in the management of hypertension, chronic stable angina pectoris, and stable chronic heart failure with reduced left ventricular function.

Dosage and Administration

Hypertension/Angina: usual starting dose 5 mg once daily, may be increased to 10 mg or 20 mg once daily as needed. Heart failure: started at a low dose (1.25 mg) and titrated gradually under close medical supervision. Take in the morning, with or without food.

Interaction

Concomitant use with calcium channel blockers (verapamil, diltiazem), other antihypertensives, or antiarrhythmics may potentiate bradycardia or hypotension. Use with caution alongside clonidine, digitalis glycosides, or insulin/oral antidiabetics, as beta-blockade may mask signs of hypoglycemia.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in acute heart failure, cardiogenic shock, second- or third-degree AV block, sick sinus syndrome, severe bradycardia, severe peripheral arterial disease, untreated phaeochromocytoma, and metabolic acidosis.

Side Effects

Fatigue, dizziness, headache, bradycardia, cold extremities, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Less commonly, hypotension or sleep disturbances.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy only if clearly necessary, as beta-blockers may reduce placental perfusion; not generally recommended during breastfeeding without medical advice.

Precautions and Warnings

Should not be discontinued abruptly, as this may precipitate rebound hypertension or myocardial ischemia; dose should be tapered gradually. Use with caution in patients with diabetes, renal or hepatic impairment, or bronchospastic disease.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Bisocor be stopped suddenly?
No, abrupt discontinuation can cause rebound increases in blood pressure or heart rate; the dose should be reduced gradually under medical guidance.

Is Bisocor safe for asthma patients?
It should be used with caution in patients with bronchospastic conditions, as beta-blockers can worsen airway constriction in susceptible individuals.
