Overview

Cefotil 750 mg Injection contains Cefuroxime Axetil, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is a parenteral second-generation cephalosporin used for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections including pneumonia, meningitis (caused by susceptible organisms), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and septicaemia in hospital settings.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 750 mg–1.5 g three times daily by IM or IV injection/infusion, depending on severity. Administer IV doses over 3–5 minutes or by infusion over 30 minutes. Duration as per physician direction.

Interaction

Probenecid increases cefuroxime serum levels. May potentiate anticoagulant effects. Aminoglycosides should be given separately.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins.

Side Effects

Injection site pain, phlebitis, nausea, hypersensitivity reactions, and transient increases in liver enzymes.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Category B in pregnancy; use only when clearly indicated. May be excreted in breast milk.
