Dexonex-C Eye/Ear Drops 5 ml

Overview

Dexonex-C Eye/Ear Drop contains Dexamethasone 0.1% and Chloramphenicol 0.5%, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. This combination preparation provides anti-inflammatory activity (dexamethasone) and broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage (chloramphenicol) for inflammatory eye conditions complicated by or at risk of bacterial infection, including bacterial conjunctivitis with significant inflammation, post-operative ocular inflammation with infection risk, and otitis externa.

Dosage and Administration

Instil 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) 4–6 times daily, or as directed by the physician. For ear use: 3–4 drops into the ear canal 2–3 times daily. Warm the bottle slightly before ear instillation.

Interaction

Systemic absorption is minimal. When multiple ophthalmic preparations are used, wait at least 5 minutes between them. Do not use soft contact lenses during treatment.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in viral ocular infections (herpes simplex), fungal eye infections, ocular tuberculosis, and known hypersensitivity to either component. Not for use in perforated eardrum for otic use.

Side Effects

Local burning, stinging, and blurred vision on instillation. Prolonged corticosteroid eye use may cause elevated intraocular pressure, cataract, and steroid-induced glaucoma.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use with caution in pregnancy; minimal systemic absorption expected with ophthalmic use.

Precautions and Warnings

Duration of corticosteroid eye drops should be limited and monitored. Regular intraocular pressure checks if used for more than 10 days. Do not use if eardrum is perforated (ear use).

Storage Conditions

Store at 2–25°C away from light. Shake gently before use. Discard remaining contents after completing course.
