Overview

Fungistin Oral Drops contain Nystatin, a naturally derived polyene antifungal antibiotic. It acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract and oral cavity — it is not absorbed systemically. Nystatin is the first-line treatment for Candida albicans infections of the mouth (oral thrush) and intestines. Diabetic patients are at significantly higher risk of oral candidiasis due to elevated oral glucose levels and immune impairment.

Mechanism of Action

Nystatin binds to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, creating pores that increase membrane permeability. This causes leakage of intracellular contents and cell death.
