Adaben Duo 20gm — Adapalene 0.1% + Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%
Generic Name: Adapalene 0.1% + Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% Gel
Manufacturer: Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Drug Class: Topical Retinoid + Topical Antimicrobial — Fixed-dose Combination Acne Treatment
Dosage Form: Topical Gel
Pack Size: 20gm tube
Prescription Status: Prescription Only (Rx)
Mechanism of Action
Adaben Duo combines two complementary acne-fighting agents:
- Adapalene 0.1% — a third-generation synthetic retinoid that normalises follicular keratinisation, prevents microcomedone formation, and exerts anti-inflammatory effects by modulating RAR-β/γ receptors in keratinocytes.
- Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% — generates free oxygen radicals with bactericidal activity against Cutibacterium acnes. It does not induce antibiotic resistance, making it a key component of long-term acne management strategies.
The fixed-dose combination simultaneously targets all four acne pathogenic factors: follicular hyperkeratosis, sebum excess, bacterial proliferation, and inflammation.
Relevance to Diabetes and Insulin Resistance
Hyperinsulinaemia and elevated IGF-1 (common in Type 2 Diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS) stimulate sebaceous gland activity and androgen production, worsening acne. Effective topical treatment reduces acne severity and the risk of secondary skin infections — a particular concern in diabetic patients.
Indications
- Mild to moderate acne vulgaris
- Comedonal acne with inflammatory component
- Acne associated with PCOS or insulin resistance
