Overview

Afun VT Vaginal Tablet 200 mg contains Clotrimazole, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent used to treat vaginal yeast infections.

Indications

Afun VT is indicated for vaginal itching, burning and discharge associated with recurrent vaginal yeast infections (Vaginal candidiasis), vaginitis due to Candida species, and mycotic infections complicated by other susceptible microorganisms.

Pharmacology

Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent active against pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, moulds and certain gram-positive bacteria. It alters the permeability of fungal cell walls by interfering with cell wall lipids, primarily inhibiting ergosterol synthesis.

Dosage and Administration

First infections: A 3-day treatment is generally sufficient. On 3 consecutive nights, one 200 mg vaginal tablet is inserted as deeply as possible into the vagina, preferably lying on the back with knees slightly bent.
Treatment should be timed to avoid the menstrual period and finished before menstruation begins. To prevent re-infection, the partner should be treated locally with Clotrimazole cream at the same time.
Use the applicator: pull out the plunger, place the tablet into the applicator, insert it as deeply as possible into the vagina, and push the plunger to deposit the tablet. Wash the applicator with warm soapy water after use.

Interaction

No information is available.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of this product.

Side Effects

Since there is practically no absorption through the vaginal skin, no systemic effect is expected. Local tolerance is generally good; local irritation or a burning sensation may occur in a few cases but is not considered harmful.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Clotrimazole should be used in pregnancy only when considered necessary by the physician, and only under medical supervision. It is very poorly absorbed into the blood after vaginal application, and studies in the second and third trimesters have shown no ill effects. It is not known if Clotrimazole is secreted in breast milk.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnant women must follow their physician's instructions. The partner should be treated with Clotrimazole cream concurrently to prevent re-infection.

Storage Conditions

Keep below 25°C temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
