Overview
Alarid Syrup contains Ketotifen Fumarate, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. Ketotifen is a non-competitive H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer used for the prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma and for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and urticaria, especially suited for paediatric use.
Dosage and Administration
Children 6 months to 3 years: 0.5 mg (2.5 ml) twice daily. Children above 3 years and Adults: 1 mg (5 ml) twice daily with food.
Interaction
Concomitant use with oral antidiabetic drugs has rarely been associated with a reversible decrease in platelet count; should be used with caution with CNS depressants, antihistamines, or alcohol due to additive sedative effects.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Ketotifen or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects
Drowsiness, sedation, dry mouth, and mild gastrointestinal disturbances. Increased appetite and weight gain may occur with prolonged use.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk. Not recommended during breastfeeding as Ketotifen is excreted in breast milk.
