DESCRIPTION
Acting on the vascular smooth muscles, ANGIST (Nitroglycerin) dilates the peripheral veins and arteries as well as coronary vessels, thereby decreases the pre and after load and the oxygen demand of the heart.
COMPOSITION
Each sustained release tablet contains Nitroglycerin USP 2.6 mg.
INDICATIONS
Prophylaxis and treatment of angina; Chronic treatment of coronary artery diseases; left ventricular failure.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Recommended initial disage is 1 tablet (2.6 mg) 3 times daily, before breakfast, late afternoon before a meal and before retiring. Dosage may be increased progressively up to 2 tablets 3 times a day.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to nitrates; hypotensive conditions; hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, cardiac tamponade, constrictive pericarditis, marked anaemia.
SIDE-EFFECTS
Postural hypotension, tachycardia; headache, dizziness; less commonly nausea, vomiting, heartburn, flushing, rash.
USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
There is no evidence relating to the safety of nitrates in pregnancy and lactation and hence should not be administered unless considered essential by the physician.
DRUG INTERACTION
Concomitant administration with other vasodilators, antihypertensive agents, beta-blockers, calcium-channel blockers, diuretics, neuroleptics or tricyclic anti-depressants and the consumption of alcohol may augment the antihypertensive effect of Nitroglycerin. Patients treated previously with organic nitrate compounds(e.g. isosorbide mono-or dinitrate) may require higher Nitroglycerin dosages for the same haemodynamic effects. Concomitant use of Nitroglycerin and Heparin may decrease the effects of Heparin.
