Overview
AnsuPen is a reusable insulin pen device from Square Pharmaceuticals PLC, designed to let people with diabetes self-administer insulin from a 3 mL Ansulin™ cartridge in a convenient, accurate, and repeatable way.
Description
The pen uses a push, twist and lock cartridge holder that allows the user to inject insulin, read and correct the dialled dose easily, and change cartridges quickly. It can deliver doses from 1 to 60 units in 1-unit increments; if too many units are dialled, the dose can be corrected without wasting insulin. It is intended for use with compatible 4 mm pen needles, which carry a lower risk of intramuscular injection than 6 mm needles and are suitable for subcutaneous delivery regardless of BMI.
Usage Instructions
Cartridge change: remove the pen cap, turn off the cartridge sleeve, remove the empty cartridge, insert the new cartridge, push the threaded rod back fully, and reattach the cartridge sleeve. Needle attachment: peel off the foil, twist the needle onto the cartridge sleeve, then remove the outer and inner needle caps. Priming: dial a test dose of at least 2 units, point the pen upward, tap gently to bring air to the top, and press the push-button until a few drops of insulin appear at the needle tip. For injection: press the push-button in fully, hold it down during discharge, wait about 6 seconds after the dose is delivered, then withdraw the needle slowly.
Needle Disposal
After each injection, carefully re-attach the outer needle protective cap, twist off the used pen needle, and dispose of it according to your physician's or healthcare provider's advice. Use a new needle for each injection.
Storage
Store and use the pen at room temperature, at or below 30°C. Keep the pen in its pouch without a needle attached when not in use, and protect it from water, dust, and moisture. Clean only with a damp cloth — do not use alcohol or other solvents, and never immerse the pen in water.
