Bonizol 100ml IV Infusion

Overview

Bonizol IV Infusion contains Zoledronic Acid, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is a potent bisphosphonate used in the treatment of osteoporosis (postmenopausal, male, and glucocorticoid-induced), Paget's disease of bone, and for the prevention and treatment of skeletal-related events in patients with bone metastases or multiple myeloma, as well as for treatment of hypercalcemia of malignancy.

Dosage and Administration

For osteoporosis: 5 mg as a single intravenous infusion once a year, infused over no less than 15 minutes. For other indications (e.g., bone metastases), dosing frequency and concentration differ and should follow the physician's specific regimen. Patients must be adequately hydrated and have adequate calcium and vitamin D intake before infusion.

Interaction

Use with caution alongside other nephrotoxic drugs, aminoglycosides, loop diuretics, or other bisphosphonates. Concomitant use with thalidomide in myeloma patients may increase renal risk.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, hypocalcemia, known hypersensitivity to zoledronic acid or other bisphosphonates, and pregnancy.

Side Effects

Fever, flu-like symptoms, myalgia, arthralgia, and headache following infusion (acute phase reaction), typically with the first dose. Hypocalcemia, renal impairment, and rarely osteonecrosis of the jaw with prolonged use.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Contraindicated in pregnancy due to potential fetal harm; not recommended during breastfeeding.

Precautions and Warnings

Renal function must be assessed before each dose. Adequate hydration and calcium/vitamin D supplementation are essential to reduce the risk of hypocalcemia. Dental examination is recommended before starting therapy due to the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw, especially with long-term use.
