BUFOCORT 200 Cozycap (DPI)

Overview

Bufocort 200 Cozycap contains a combination of Budesonide and Formoterol Fumarate, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is used as maintenance therapy for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults who require both an inhaled corticosteroid and a long-acting bronchodilator for adequate disease control.

Dosage and Administration

For inhalation only via the Cozycap DPI device. Adults: 1 capsule inhaled twice daily, or as prescribed by the physician. The capsule must not be swallowed — pierce and inhale the contents through the device. Rinse the mouth with water after each use to reduce the risk of oral candidiasis.

Interaction

Concurrent use with other beta-2 agonists, xanthines, or diuretics may increase the risk of hypokalaemia. Use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir) may increase budesonide plasma levels. Beta-blockers may reduce the bronchodilator effect of formoterol.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to budesonide, formoterol, or any excipients in the formulation. Not indicated for acute bronchospasm relief.

Side Effects

Oral candidiasis, dysphonia (hoarseness), headache, palpitations, tremor, and throat irritation. Systemic corticosteroid effects may occur with high doses over prolonged periods.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy and lactation only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk; consult a physician before use, as budesonide crosses the placental barrier and may be excreted in breast milk.

Precautions and Warnings

Not for acute rescue use — a short-acting bronchodilator should be available for acute episodes. Monitor for signs of systemic corticosteroid effects with prolonged high-dose therapy. Rinse mouth after each inhalation. Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, or hyperthyroidism.

Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep the capsules in the blister pack until ready for use. Keep out of the reach of children.
