Overview

Camlodin 5 mg Tablet contains Amlodipine Besilate, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is a long-acting calcium channel blocker used in the management of hypertension and stable angina pectoris, reducing blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: usually 5 mg once daily, which may be increased to 10 mg once daily if needed based on response. Can be taken with or without food. The dose should be adjusted gradually over 7-14 days.

Interaction

Concomitant use with other antihypertensives may enhance blood pressure-lowering effects. CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir, erythromycin) may increase amlodipine plasma levels. Grapefruit juice may also increase levels and should be avoided.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in cardiogenic shock, clinically significant aortic stenosis, unstable angina (excluding Prinzmetal's angina), and known hypersensitivity to amlodipine or other dihydropyridines.

Side Effects

Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling), flushing, headache, palpitations, and dizziness are common. Generally well tolerated for long-term use.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary; avoid during breastfeeding as amlodipine may be excreted in breast milk.

Precautions and Warnings

Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment (start at lower doses) and in heart failure. Does not require dose adjustment in renal impairment. Blood pressure should be monitored regularly, particularly at initiation.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Camlodin be taken at any time of day?
Yes, it can be taken at any consistent time of day with or without food; once-daily dosing maintains stable blood levels throughout the day.

Does ankle swelling mean I should stop the medicine?
Peripheral oedema is a common and usually benign side effect; consult your physician if it is bothersome, as dose adjustment or alternative therapy may be considered.
