Cefotil Plus 500 Tablet

Overview

Cefotil Plus 500 Tablet contains Cefuroxime Axetil 500 mg combined with Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. This higher-strength combination tablet extends antibiotic coverage against beta-lactamase-producing organisms and is used for moderate to severe bacterial infections including lower respiratory tract infections, complicated urinary tract infections, sinusitis, and skin infections.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 500/125 mg twice daily for 7–14 days, or as prescribed. Take with or after food to improve absorption and tolerability.

Interaction

Probenecid extends drug half-life. May enhance warfarin effect. Do not combine with other antibiotics without physician guidance.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, clavulanic acid, other cephalosporins, or penicillins.

Side Effects

Gastrointestinal effects (diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain) are most common. Rash and rare hepatic reactions have been reported.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy only when clearly necessary; safe data in lactation is limited.

Precautions and Warnings

Take with food. Avoid in patients with previous clavulanate-associated liver injury. Complete the full prescribed course.
