Overview

Ciprocin 0.3% Eye Drop contains Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride in an ophthalmic solution, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, and other external ocular infections caused by susceptible organisms including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Haemophilus influenzae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Dosage and Administration

Bacterial conjunctivitis: 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 2 hours while awake for 2 days, then every 4 hours for 5 more days. Corneal ulcers: more frequent dosing as directed by the physician. Wash hands before instillation and avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye.

Interaction

Systemic absorption is minimal. When multiple ophthalmic preparations are used, wait at least 5 minutes between instillations. Remove soft contact lenses before instilling and wait at least 15 minutes before reinsertion.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones. Not for injection or oral use.

Side Effects

Local burning or discomfort on instillation, white crystalline precipitate (in corneal ulcer patients), ocular hyperaemia, and taste disturbances. Allergic reactions may rarely occur.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Systemic absorption is minimal with ophthalmic use; however, use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only when clearly necessary and under physician guidance.

Precautions and Warnings

For ophthalmic use only. Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment. Do not allow the dropper tip to touch any surface. Discard any remaining solution after completing the course.

Storage Conditions

Store at 2–25°C. Do not freeze. Keep away from direct sunlight and out of the reach of children.
