CLIMYCIN 300mg Cap.

Overview

Climycin 300 mg Capsule contains Clindamycin, a lincosamide antibiotic manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is effective against most Gram-positive organisms and anaerobic bacteria, and is used for the treatment of serious infections including skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, and dental infections. It is also used as an alternative in penicillin-allergic patients.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 150–450 mg every 6 hours (maximum 1.8 g/day for serious infections) as prescribed. Take with a full glass of water to prevent oesophageal irritation. Can be taken with or without food.

Interaction

Antagonises the effect of erythromycin (avoid concurrent use). May enhance the effect of neuromuscular blocking agents. Absorption may be slightly reduced by kaolin-pectin antidiarrhoeal preparations.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin. Not recommended in patients with a history of antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis or severe hepatic impairment.

Side Effects

Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, and oesophageal ulceration (if swallowed without sufficient water). Severe: Clostridium difficile-associated pseudomembranous colitis — discontinue immediately if severe diarrhoea develops.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy only when clearly necessary. Excreted in breast milk — use with caution during lactation; monitor infant for diarrhoea.

Precautions and Warnings

Always take with a full glass of water and remain upright for at least 30 minutes to prevent oesophageal injury. Discontinue immediately if significant diarrhoea develops and seek medical attention — this may indicate pseudomembranous colitis. Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment or a history of GI disease.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
