Clofenac 100 TR

Overview

Clofenac SR 100 mg Tablet contains Diclofenac Sodium in a sustained-release formulation, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. The SR formulation delivers the drug slowly over an extended period, providing prolonged anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. It is used for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout, and other conditions requiring anti-inflammatory therapy.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: one SR 100 mg tablet once daily (preferably in the evening) with food, as prescribed. Swallow whole — do not crush or chew.

Interaction

May reduce the efficacy of antihypertensive and diuretic drugs. Increases risk of bleeding with anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents. Concurrent use with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids increases GI risk. May increase methotrexate and lithium levels.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulcer, severe renal/hepatic/cardiac impairment, known hypersensitivity to diclofenac or other NSAIDs, history of NSAID-induced asthma, and during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Side Effects

GI disturbances (nausea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, diarrhoea), headache, dizziness, and elevated liver enzymes. Serious risks include peptic ulceration, GI bleeding, renal impairment, and cardiovascular events with long-term use.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Avoid during the third trimester; use with caution in the first and second trimesters only when clearly necessary. Small amounts pass into breast milk.

Precautions and Warnings

Take with food to reduce GI effects. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Monitor renal and hepatic function with prolonged use. Do not crush SR tablets.
