Overview

Dexonex 5 mg/ml Injection contains Dexamethasone sodium phosphate, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. The parenteral formulation is used in acute situations requiring rapid corticosteroid effect including severe asthma/COPD exacerbations, anaphylaxis, cerebral oedema, severe inflammatory states, and perioperative cover for adrenal insufficiency.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 0.5–24 mg IV or IM depending on the indication; cerebral oedema typically 10 mg IV loading then 4 mg every 6 hours. Doses adjusted by physician to clinical response. IV doses should be given by slow injection or infusion.

Interaction

Same as oral dexamethasone: NSAIDs, live vaccines, enzyme inducers/inhibitors. Avoid mixing with other drugs in the same syringe without compatibility confirmation.

Contraindications

Same contraindications as oral form: systemic untreated infections, hypersensitivity, live vaccines.

Side Effects

Injection site reactions, fluid retention, hyperglycaemia, and GI disturbance. All corticosteroid systemic effects apply.

Pregnancy and Lactation

May be used in specific pregnancy-related indications (e.g. foetal lung maturation before preterm delivery) under specialist care. Avoid high-dose prolonged use during breastfeeding.
