Dormitol 15 mg/3 ml Injection

Overview

Dormitol 15 mg/3 ml Injection contains Midazolam, a short-acting benzodiazepine manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It has sedative, anxiolytic, amnesic, anticonvulsant, and muscle-relaxant properties. It is used for preoperative sedation and anxiolysis, induction of anaesthesia, sedation for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (e.g. endoscopy), and status epilepticus.

Dosage and Administration

Preoperative sedation: 0.07–0.1 mg/kg IM 30–60 minutes before procedure. IV induction: 0.1–0.35 mg/kg slowly titrated. Doses must be individualised based on age, weight, and clinical status; administered only by trained healthcare professionals with resuscitation facilities available.

Interaction

CNS depressants (alcohol, opioids, other benzodiazepines) — profound sedation and respiratory depression. CYP3A4 inhibitors (erythromycin, fluconazole) increase midazolam levels. Flumazenil reverses effects.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, severe respiratory depression, and myasthenia gravis.

Side Effects

Respiratory depression and apnoea (dose-dependent), hypotension, paradoxical excitation (especially in elderly/children), and anterograde amnesia. High risk of dependence with repeated use.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Avoid during pregnancy (especially first trimester); risk of neonatal withdrawal and respiratory depression. Not for routine use during breastfeeding.

Precautions and Warnings

Must only be administered in a setting with immediate access to resuscitation facilities and trained personnel. Have flumazenil (antidote) available. Titrate dose slowly especially in elderly, debilitated, and paediatric patients.
