Dyvon Ointment 20 gm

Overview

Dyvon 0.005% w/w Ointment contains Calcipotriol Monohydrate, a synthetic Vitamin D3 analogue manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. Calcipotriol normalises abnormal epidermal keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation associated with plaque psoriasis. It is used for the topical treatment of mild to moderate chronic plaque psoriasis (psoriasis vulgaris).

Dosage and Administration

Adults: apply a thin layer to the affected area(s) once or twice daily. Maximum weekly dose: 100 g. Do not use on the face. Wash hands after application.

Interaction

Systemic absorption is low at therapeutic doses; calcipotriol may interact with drugs affecting calcium metabolism if absorbed in large amounts. Avoid concurrent use with keratolytics on the same area as they may inactivate calcipotriol.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in calcium metabolism disorders (hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria), use on the face, application to more than 30% body surface area, and known hypersensitivity to calcipotriol.

Side Effects

Skin irritation, burning, itching, dryness, and perilesional erythema. Hypercalcaemia is possible if maximum weekly dose is exceeded.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Safety during pregnancy has not been established — avoid unless clearly necessary under physician supervision. Limited data during breastfeeding; avoid applying to breasts.

Precautions and Warnings

Do not exceed 100 g per week — higher doses risk hypercalcaemia. Avoid contact with eyes, face, and mucous membranes. Monitor calcium levels with prolonged use over large areas.
