Overview
Elorim 13.9% Cream contains Eflornithine Hydrochloride, an ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) inhibitor, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is indicated for reduction of unwanted facial hair (hirsutism) in women. Eflornithine inhibits ODC — an enzyme essential for hair follicle growth — slowing the rate of hair growth. It does not remove hair permanently but retards regrowth when used continuously with regular hair removal.
Dosage and Administration
Adults (women only): apply a thin layer to the affected facial area(s) twice daily, at least 8 hours apart. Rub in thoroughly. Do not wash the treated area for at least 4 hours after application. Continue in conjunction with chosen hair removal method.
Interaction
No clinically significant systemic drug interactions have been reported due to the localised topical application and negligible systemic absorption.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to eflornithine. Not indicated for use in children under 12 years or in males.
Side Effects
Acne, pseudofolliculitis barbae, stinging, tingling, burning, dry skin, erythema, and alopecia on the treated area. Generally mild and localised.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Limited data in pregnancy — avoid topical eflornithine during pregnancy as a precaution. Not recommended during breastfeeding.
Precautions and Warnings
For cosmetic use only — not a depilatory. Discontinue if severe skin irritation occurs. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Wash hands after application. Improvement visible after 4–8 weeks; re-growth returns to pre-treatment rate within 8 weeks of stopping.
Storage Conditions
Store below 25°C. Protect from freezing. Keep out of the reach of children.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Elorim take to show results?
Noticeable reduction in facial hair regrowth is typically seen after 4–8 weeks of regular twice-daily use; the product should be used continuously with regular hair removal for best results.
Will hair grow back if Elorim is stopped?
Yes — eflornithine only slows hair growth while in use; hair typically returns to its pre-treatment rate of growth within approximately 8 weeks after stopping the cream.
