Overview
Erian Ointment is a combination anorectal preparation manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC containing four active ingredients: Cinchocaine (a potent local anaesthetic), Hydrocortisone (a corticosteroid), Framycetin Sulphate (an aminoglycoside antibiotic), and Esculin (a venotonic/capillary protective agent). This quadruple-action formulation is used for the symptomatic relief of haemorrhoids (piles), anal fissures, pruritus ani, and other anorectal conditions involving pain, inflammation, infection, and venous engorgement.
Dosage and Administration
Apply a small amount to the affected anorectal area 2–3 times daily and after each bowel movement, or as directed by the physician. Wash hands thoroughly before and after application. Use only for the prescribed duration.
Interaction
Systemic absorption is minimal at the perianal site. Cinchocaine may interact with class I antiarrhythmics if absorbed systemically. Inform physician of all concurrent medications.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in viral, fungal, or tuberculous infections of the perianal skin, known hypersensitivity to any component including aminoglycosides, and in children without physician guidance.
Side Effects
Mild local burning or irritation at the site of application. Prolonged use of corticosteroid-containing preparations may cause skin atrophy, striae, and sensitisation to framycetin.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Use with caution during pregnancy — corticosteroid absorption through perianal skin should be minimised; use only under physician supervision for the shortest effective duration.
Precautions and Warnings
Limit use to the anorectal area only — avoid use on large areas of skin. Do not use for more than 7 days continuously without physician review. Prolonged use may mask secondary infection.
Storage Conditions
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
