Overview

Eromycin 3% W/V Lotion contains Erythromycin in a topical formulation, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. Topical erythromycin inhibits the growth of Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes) in pilosebaceous follicles, reducing the bacterial load associated with acne vulgaris and its inflammatory lesions. It is used for the treatment of acne vulgaris, particularly inflammatory and pustular lesions. Topical erythromycin is often combined with topical benzoyl peroxide or zinc to minimise antibiotic resistance development.

Dosage and Administration

Apply a thin layer to the cleansed, dry affected skin areas twice daily (morning and evening), or as directed by the physician. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.

Interaction

Use with topical benzoyl peroxide or zinc to reduce antibiotic resistance risk. Avoid concurrent use with other topical keratolytics or abrasives on the same area — may cause excessive skin dryness or irritation.

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to erythromycin or macrolide antibiotics.

Side Effects

Mild skin dryness, erythema (redness), peeling, and burning sensation at the application site. Antibiotic resistance may develop with prolonged use — limit to necessary duration.

Pregnancy and Lactation
