Overview

Evit 200 mg Liquid Capsule (Licap) contains Vitamin E as Alpha Tocopherol Acetate 200 mg, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. Vitamin E is the primary fat-soluble antioxidant in the body, protecting cell membranes from oxidative damage by neutralising free radicals. It is used as a nutritional supplement for Vitamin E deficiency, as an adjunct antioxidant in atherosclerosis, as a support in skin and reproductive health, and in conditions where fat absorption is impaired (malabsorption syndromes). The liquid capsule (licap) format provides rapid dissolution and enhanced bioavailability.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 200 mg once daily with a meal, or as directed by a physician. Fat-containing meals enhance absorption of this fat-soluble vitamin.

Interaction

High-dose Vitamin E may enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin — monitor INR. May reduce platelet aggregation, increasing bleeding risk when combined with anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs. May interfere with Vitamin K absorption at very high doses.

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to any component. Use with caution in patients on anticoagulant therapy. High-dose Vitamin E supplementation should be avoided in patients with haemorrhagic stroke history.

Side Effects

Well tolerated at recommended doses. High-dose supplementation (above 400 IU/day chronically) has been associated with increased all-cause mortality in some meta-analyses; headache, nausea, and diarrhoea at very high doses.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Safe at recommended dietary allowances during pregnancy and breastfeeding. High-dose supplementation in pregnancy should be avoided without physician guidance.

Precautions and Warnings

Take with food containing fat for best absorption. At supplemental doses, Vitamin E is generally safe; high-dose long-term supplementation should be undertaken only under medical supervision.

Storage Conditions

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Evit 200 mg suitable for daily supplementation?
At 200 mg (approximately 200 IU), Evit is within the range commonly used for supplementation; both doses are above the recommended dietary allowance (15 mg/day) but are commonly prescribed by physicians for specific deficiency or therapeutic indications.

Does Vitamin E improve skin health?
Vitamin E's antioxidant properties protect skin cells from oxidative stress, UV damage, and lipid peroxidation; it is used both orally and topically in skin health, though evidence for supplemental benefits in cosmetic skin improvement is modest — consult a physician for appropriate use.
