Overview
Ezex 0.05% Cream contains Clobetasone Butyrate 0.05% w/w, a mild-to-moderate potency topical corticosteroid manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. Clobetasone butyrate has lower intrinsic glucocorticoid activity than betamethasone or hydrocortisone butyrate, making it one of the safer topical steroids for use in sensitive skin areas and in children. It is used for mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis), contact dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis of non-scalp areas, and other inflammatory skin conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Adults and children over 1 year: apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily until improvement, then reduce frequency; for the shortest effective period. Use the fingertip unit (FTU) guide — one FTU covers an area the size of two adult hands.
Interaction
Minimal systemic absorption with correct use; no significant systemic drug interactions at topical doses. Avoid concurrent use of other topical steroids on the same area.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in viral skin infections (herpes, varicella), rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, skin atrophy, and known hypersensitivity to clobetasone or other corticosteroids.
Side Effects
With prolonged use: skin thinning, striae, telangiectasia, contact dermatitis, and perioral dermatitis. Systemic effects (adrenal suppression) are rare at therapeutic doses of a mild-potency steroid.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Generally considered safe for short-term use in pregnancy under physician guidance — minimal systemic absorption with appropriate application.
Precautions and Warnings
Use for the minimum effective duration. Avoid the face unless specifically prescribed. Do not use under occlusion for prolonged periods. Do not use on infected skin without appropriate antimicrobial cover.
Storage Conditions
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep out of the reach of children.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is clobetasone butyrate safe for use on children's skin?
Clobetasone 0.05% is classified as a mild-potency steroid and is one of the safer options for use on children's skin, particularly in sensitive areas; however, application should still be limited to the affected area for the shortest effective duration under physician supervision.
Can Ezex Cream be used on the face?
Mild-potency corticosteroids like clobetasone are sometimes prescribed for short-term facial use (for conditions like seborrhoeic dermatitis), but always under physician supervision; chronic facial corticosteroid use risks perioral dermatitis, rosacea, and skin thinning.
