Overview

Ezex 0.05% Ointment contains Clobetasone Butyrate 0.05% w/w, a mild-to-moderate potency topical corticosteroid in an ointment base, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. The ointment formulation provides greater moisturising properties and occlusive effect than the cream, enhancing penetration and making it more suitable for dry, chronic, or lichenified (thickened) eczematous skin. Indications are the same as for the cream: mild to moderate eczema, contact dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin conditions.

Dosage and Administration

Adults and children over 1 year: apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily; taper as condition improves. Use the minimum effective amount for the shortest time necessary.

Interaction

Same as cream: no clinically significant systemic drug interactions at topical doses.

Contraindications

Same as cream: viral infections, rosacea, acne, perioral dermatitis, skin atrophy, and known hypersensitivity.

Side Effects

Same as cream with additional note: ointment vehicles may cause more folliculitis if used in hairy areas or under occlusion.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Generally safe for short-term use in pregnancy under physician guidance.

Precautions and Warnings

Prefer the cream for weeping or wet lesions; ointment is preferable for dry, scaly, or thickened skin. Avoid under occlusion for extended periods.
