Ferroglobin 200 mg/5 ml Syrup,200 ml

DESCRIPTION

Iron is the most important constituent of haemoglobin. Hypochromic microcytic anaemia occurs due to iron deficiency.

FERROGLOBIN is used in this type of anaemic patients to prevent anaemia. Every day an average human body requires about 0.7 mg/kg body weight of iron. Poor food, over work, iron deficiency anaemia, hemorrhage, pregnancy, glossitis and helminthiasis are responsible for anaemia.

COMPOSITION

Each 5 ml syrup contains Ferrous Sulfate USP 200 mg (equivalent to 40 mg iron) .

INDICATIONS

FERROGLOBIN is indicated in iron deficiency anemia, over work, hemorrhage, pregnancy, glossitis and helminthiasis.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Adults: 1 teaspoonful 2-3 times daily.

Children: ½ teaspoonful 2-3 times daily.

OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PHYSICIAN.

SIDE EFFECTS

Slight overdose of oral iron often causes nausea, abdominal pain and either diarrhoea or constipation. Although iron is better absorbed between meals, side effects can be reduced by taking it with or immediately after food.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Contraindicated in megaloblastic anaemia due to Vitamin B12 deficiency.

PRECAUTIONS

Iron syrup should be administered with water or fruit juice to avoid staining of the teeth.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Concomitant administration of iron syrup and magnesium trisilicate containing antacid reduces the absorption of iron. Iron salt reduces the absorption of tetracycline if used concomitantly. If two drugs are indicated iron syrup should be administered before 3 hours or after 2 hours of administration of tetracycline.

OVERDOSAGE

Some complications are observed by regular excessive administration of Ferroglobin such as nausea, abdominal pain, bloody dysentery, narcotizing gastroenteritis etc.

SUPPLY

Each bottle contains 200 ml syrup.
