Overview

Intimate 5 mg Tablet contains Tadalafil 5 mg, a selective phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used in the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction (ED), Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), or a combination of both conditions. Tadalafil inhibits PDE5, which increases cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels in smooth muscle cells. Elevated cGMP causes smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow into the corpus cavernosum, producing penile erection. PDE5 inhibition in the prostate and bladder smooth muscle leads to relaxation and widened bladder neck opening, resulting in improved urinary voiding. The 5 mg dose is recommended for daily use in the management of BPH and combined ED with BPH, as well as for patients requiring a lower starting dose for ED.

Dosage and Administration

Erectile Dysfunction: The recommended starting dose is 10 mg before sexual activity. The dose may be reduced to 5 mg based on individual response. The maximum dosing frequency is once daily. Tadalafil remains effective for up to 36 hours.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: The recommended dose is 5 mg taken at the same time every day.

Combined ED and BPH: The recommended dose is 5 mg taken at the same time every day.

Interaction

Intimate may interact with nitrates (e.g., Isosorbide, Nitroglycerin), Alpha adrenergic blockers, antihypertensives, alcohol, antacids (magnesium hydroxide/aluminium hydroxide), Ketoconazole, Ritonavir, Erythromycin, Itraconazole, grapefruit juice, other HIV protease inhibitors, Rifampin, Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, and Phenobarbital. Concurrent use with nitrates may cause dangerous hypotension.

Contraindications

Rare but serious effects may include change in colour vision, sudden vision loss, hearing loss, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis, angina, stroke, myocardial infarction, severe hypotension, and tachycardia.

Tadalafil is assigned to pregnancy category B by the USFDA. It is recommended only when the benefit outweighs the potential risk. There are no data on the excretion of Tadalafil in human breast milk; caution is advised when administering to nursing women.
