Gram positive and Gram negative organism. LEO (Levofloxacin) blocks bacterial
DNA synthesis by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase (DNA Topoisomerase II), thus it kills bacteria.
COMPOSITION
LEO 250 : Each film-coated tablet contains Levofloxacin INN 250 mg.
LEO 500 : Each film-coated tablet contains Levofloxacin INN 500 mg.
LEO 750 : Each film-coated tablet contains Levofloxacin INN 750 mg.
INDICATIONS
Acute maxillary sinusitis due to Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae or Moraxella catarrhalis etc.
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (ABECB) due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Moraxella catarrhalis etc.
Nosocomial pneumonia due to methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Streptococcus pneumoniae etc. Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) due to Klebsiella pneumoniae,
Chlamydia pneumoniae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, Legionella pneumophila, Mycoplasma pneumoniae or Moraxella catarrhalis etc.
Complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections due to E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus or Staphylococcus aprophyticus, Proteus mirabilis, Enterococcus faecalis or Enterobacter cloacae etc.
Acute pyelonephritis due to E. coli etc.
Complicated and uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections including abscesses, cellulitis, furuncles, wound infection, impetigo and pyoderma due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Protius mirabilis or Enterococcus faecalis etc.
Chronic bacterial prostatistis due to Enterococcus faecalis, E. coli, or staphylococcus epidermidis etc.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
LEO (Levofloxacin) can be administered without regard to food. The usual dose of LEO (Levofloxacin) is 500 mg every 24 hours.

SIDE EFFECT
Levofloxacin is generally well tolerated, but it may cause a few side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and dyspepsia and CNS side effects including headache, dizziness, restlessness, nervousness & insomnia. Pruritus, rash & erythematous may also occur occasionally.
PRECAUTIONS
Precaution should be taken to treat the following group of patients with Levofloxacin.
Renal Impairment: Elimination half-life of Levofloxacin is prolonged in some cases with renal impairment, so dosage adjustment is required.
Pediatric: Safety of Levofloxacin in pediatric patients and adolescents below the age of 18 years have not been established.
Pregnancy and lactation : There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Levofloxacin for use in pregnancy and lactation. Levofloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus (pregnancy category C). Levofloxacin may excrete in breast milk. During lactation it should not be used.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Levofloxacin is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin, quinolones or any other components of this product.
DRUG INTERACTION
Interact with Theophylline, Warfarin, Cyclosporin, Digoxin, Probenecid, Cimetidine, Sucralfate, Antacid, NSAIDs.
