Cefotil Plus 250 Tablet

Overview

Cefotil Plus 250 Tablet contains Cefuroxime Axetil 250 mg combined with Clavulanic Acid 62.5 mg, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. The addition of clavulanic acid extends the spectrum against beta-lactamase-producing organisms. It is used for sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media caused by beta-lactamase-producing pathogens.

Dosage and Administration

Adults and children over 12 years: 250/62.5 mg twice daily for 7–14 days as prescribed. Take with food to improve absorption and minimise gastrointestinal side effects.

Interaction

Probenecid prolongs both cefuroxime and clavulanate excretion. May enhance anticoagulant effect of warfarin.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, clavulanic acid, or penicillins.

Side Effects

Diarrhoea, nausea, and abdominal upset are common. Skin rash and rarely hepatotoxicity have been reported with clavulanic acid combinations.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Category B in pregnancy; use only when clearly indicated. Excreted in breast milk in small amounts.

Precautions and Warnings

Take with food. Avoid in patients with previous cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with clavulanate. Complete the full course.
