Overview

Cefotil Oral Suspension contains Cefuroxime Axetil at 125 mg per 5 ml, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is indicated for children and adults who require a liquid formulation for the treatment of pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute otitis media, impetigo, urinary tract infections, and lower respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Dosage and Administration

Children: 125–250 mg twice daily for 7–14 days based on age and weight; as prescribed. Shake well before each use. Reconstitute with water as directed on the label.

Interaction

Absorption may be reduced by antacids. Probenecid increases cefuroxime levels.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or other cephalosporins.

Side Effects

Diarrhoea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort. Rash or allergic reactions may rarely occur.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Relatively safe in pregnancy (Category B) when clearly necessary.
