Paracetamol inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the CNS and reduces fever via the hypothalamic heat-regulating center.

Indications

• Relief of mild to moderate pain: headache, toothache, backache
• Reduction of fever in cold and influenza
• Post-operative pain management

Dosage & Administration

Adults: 500–1000mg every 4–6h. Max 4000mg/24h.

Contraindications & Precautions

• Hypersensitivity to paracetamol
• Severe hepatic impairment
• Do not exceed recommended dose

Side Effects

Well tolerated. Hepatotoxicity with overdose.

Drug Interactions

Warfarin: monitor INR. Alcohol: hepatotoxic risk.
