Pharmacology

Proviten Gold is a film-coated tablet combining 32 high-potency vitamins and minerals in a single formulation. Key nutritional roles:

  • Vitamins A, C, E, Selenium, Zinc: Antioxidant network — protect cells from oxidative stress and support immune function.
  • Vitamin D (400 IU) + Calcium (162 mg) + Phosphorous: Essential for bone mineralisation, calcium absorption, and prevention of osteoporosis.
  • B-complex vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, Folic Acid, Biotin, Pantothenate): Co-enzymes for energy metabolism, red blood cell production, nerve function, and DNA synthesis.
  • Iron (18 mg): Prevents iron-deficiency anaemia; supports oxygen transport.
  • Iodine (150 mcg): Supports thyroid hormone synthesis and metabolic regulation.
  • Lutein (250 mcg): Supports macular health and protects against age-related eye degeneration.
  • Chromium: Enhances insulin sensitivity and carbohydrate metabolism — particularly relevant for diabetic or pre-diabetic individuals.
  • Magnesium, Potassium: Electrolyte balance, cardiovascular health, and muscle function.

The comprehensive gold formulation is specifically designed to maintain a healthy body and active lifestyle across all adult age groups.

Dosage and Administration

One tablet daily, or as recommended by the physician. Best taken after a meal to minimise gastric discomfort. May be taken at any time of day.

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation
  • Hypervitaminosis A (excess Vitamin A toxicity)
  • Iron overload conditions (haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis)

Warnings and Precautions

  • Vitamin A and osteoporosis: Long-term intake of high-level Vitamin A (excluding beta-carotene) may increase the risk of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. Use with caution in this population.
  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
  • Inform your physician if taking other vitamin or mineral supplements to avoid accumulation of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K).
  • Keep out of reach of children — iron-containing products can be toxic in overdose in young children.

Side Effects

Generally well tolerated. Occasional side effects include:

  • Diarrhoea — may occasionally occur with Beta-Carotene; slight yellow skin discolouration is harmless and reversible
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, diarrhoea) — may occur with high-dose Vitamin C or Vitamin E
  • Constipation, dark stools — related to iron content

Drug Interactions

  • No significant drug interactions have been reported at recommended doses.
  • Tetracyclines, fluoroquinolone antibiotics: Iron, calcium, and zinc may reduce absorption — separate dosing by at least 2 hours.
  • Levothyroxine: Iron and calcium may impair absorption — separate by at least 4 hours.
  • Anticoagulants (warfarin): High-dose Vitamin K (not present at significant levels in Proviten Gold at 25 mcg/tab) — routine doses unlikely to interact, but monitor INR in patients on warfarin.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Recommended by consultation with a physician. The Vitamin A content (5,000 IU) is within safe limits for supplementation during pregnancy; however, pregnant women should not take additional high-dose Vitamin A supplements concurrently. For dedicated prenatal supplementation, Precare Tablet (Incepta) may be preferred.

Storage

Store in a dry place, away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the strip.
