Turbocef 500 tablet
1. What Turbocef® is and what it is used for?
Turbocef® (Cefuroxime) is second generation Cephalosporin antibiotic. Cefuroxime is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis; gonorrhea; Lyme disease; and infections of the ears, throat, sinuses, urinary tract, and skin.
2. Before you take Turbocef®
Do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if:
If you have allergy to the Cephalosporin group of Antibiotic.
Take special care with Turbocef®
Cefuroxime should be given with caution to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics because these diuretics are suspected of adversely affecting renal function. Risk include patients with renal or hepatic impairment, or poor nutritional state, as well as patients receiving a protracted course of antimicrobial therapy, and patients previously stabilized on anticoagulant therapy.
Check with your doctor before taking this medicine if:
Before therapy with Cefuroxime, careful inquiry should be made to determine whether the patient has had previous hypersensitivity reactions to Cefuroxime products or patients with a history of penicillin allergy. Caution should be exercised because cross-hypersensitivity among beta-lactam antibiotics has been clearly documented.
Taking other medicines
Concomitant administration of probenecid with Cefuroxime increases the area under the serum concentration versus time curve by 50%. Drugs that reduce gastric acidity may result in a lower bioavailability of Cefuroxime.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Pregnancy Category B: Cefuroxime has not been studied for use during labor and delivery. Nursing Mothers: Because Cefuroxime is excreted in human milk, consideration should be given to discontinuing nursing temporarily during treatment with Cefuroxime.
