What is Vitabion Injection?
Vitabion Injection is a combined preparation of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) and Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin), used to correct vitamin B-complex deficiencies and to manage various neurological and neuropathic conditions.
Composition
Each 3 ml ampoule contains Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1) 100 mg, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) 100 mg and Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) 1000 mcg.
Indications
Vitabion is indicated where a deficiency of the relevant vitamins exists, including: Polyneuropathy of any origin (e.g. alcoholic or diabetic toxiconeuropathies), Neuritis, Neuralgia, Cervical Syndrome, Shoulder-arm Syndrome, Lumbago, Sciatica, Myalgia, Intercostal Neuralgia, Herpes Zoster, Trigeminal Neuralgia, and as supportive treatment in facial paresis.
Pharmacology
Vitamin B1 converts carbohydrates, fatty acids and amino acids into energy, promotes healthy nerves, improves mood, and strengthens the heart. Vitamin B6 forms RBCs, helps cells make proteins, manufactures neurotransmitters such as serotonin, and releases stored energy. Vitamin B12 is essential for cell replication and RBC production, prevents anemia, helps prevent depression, reduces nerve pain, numbness and tingling, and lowers cardiovascular risk.
Dosage & Administration
Severe (acute) cases: 1 injection daily until acute symptoms subside, or as advised by the physician.
Mild cases: 1 injection 2-3 times per week. Ampoules are preferably injected intramuscularly.
Use in children: there is no information on the use of this drug in children.
Interaction
No drug interaction has been reported yet.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients on levodopa therapy and in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Side Effects
Generally well tolerated, but allergic reactions may be observed in a few cases.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Due to the presence of benzyl alcohol, the injection form is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation; the oral tablet form is preferred instead.
Precautions & Warnings
Cyanocobalamin should not be given to patients with subacute degeneration of the spinal cord, and is not a suitable form of vitamin B12 for treating optic neuropathies associated with raised plasma cyanocobalamin concentrations.
Overdose Effects
No overdosage symptoms are expected at recommended dosage. If overdose is suspected, treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Therapeutic Class
Specific combined vitamin preparations
