Overview

Afun Cream 1% contains Clotrimazole, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is used for treating dermal infections caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, moulds and certain bacteria.

Indications

Afun Cream is indicated for all dermatomycoses due to dermatophytes (e.g. Trichophyton species) and yeasts (Candida species), dermatomycoses due to moulds and other fungi, and skin diseases with superinfections by these fungi. Examples include athlete's foot, paronychia associated with nail mycoses, mycoses in skin folds, Candida vulvitis, Candida balanitis, Pityriasis versicolor and erythrasma.

Pharmacology

Clotrimazole damages the permeability barrier in the fungal cell membrane by inhibiting ergosterol biosynthesis, an essential constituent of fungal cell membranes. This prevents the fungal cell from constructing an intact, functional membrane, leading to dose-dependent inhibition of fungal growth.

Dosage and Administration

Apply thinly 2 to 3 times daily to the infected sites and rub in gently. Recommended treatment duration: dermatomycoses 3 to 4 weeks; Candida vulvitis and Candida balanitis 1 to 2 weeks; erythrasma and Pityriasis versicolor approximately 3 weeks. For fungal infections of the feet, continue treatment for about 2 weeks beyond disappearance of symptoms.

Interaction

No information is available.

Contraindications

Afun Cream is well tolerated when applied topically. Local irritation or a burning sensation may occur in a few cases but is not considered harmful. Systemic effects are not observed with external application.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Clotrimazole should be used in pregnancy only when considered necessary by the physician.

Precautions and Warnings

For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and consult a physician.
