Overview

Alarid Tablet contains Ketotifen Fumarate, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. Ketotifen is a non-competitive H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer used for the prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma and for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and urticaria.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food. Children (3 years and above): 1 mg twice daily. Treatment may be started with a lower dose to minimize sedation and increased gradually as needed.

Interaction

Concomitant use with oral antidiabetic drugs has rarely been associated with a reversible decrease in platelet count; should be used with caution with CNS depressants, antihistamines, or alcohol due to additive sedative effects.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Ketotifen or any component of the formulation.

Side Effects

Drowsiness, sedation, dry mouth, and mild gastrointestinal disturbances. Increased appetite and weight gain may occur with prolonged use.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk. Not recommended during breastfeeding as Ketotifen is excreted in breast milk.

Precautions and Warnings

May cause drowsiness; patients should be cautious while driving or operating machinery. Concomitant administration of oral antidiabetic drugs should be monitored.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
