DESCRIPTION

CETIZIN (Cetirizine) is an anti-H1 agent devoid of any significant anticholinergic or antiserotonin effects. At therapeutic doses, it induces neither sedation nor behavioural changes. This may be explained by the fact that CETIZIN (Cetirizine) does not cross the blood brain barrier. CETIZIN (Cetirizine) rapidly inhibits certain effects produced by exogenous histamine. It also inhibits endogenous histamine. Finally, it inhibits the cutaneous reaction induced by agents which are believed to take part in the allergic reaction. It also reduces allergic reaction induced without any central effects.

COMPOSITION

Tablet : Each film-coated tablet contains Cetirizine Dihydrochloride BP 10 mg.

INDICATIONS

Symptomatic treatment of seasonal rhinitis and conjunctivitis, perennial allergic rhinitis as well as pruritus and urticaria of allergic origin.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Adults and children over 6 years : 1 tablet (10 mg) once daily or ½ tablet (5 mg) twice daily.

Children (2-6 years) : ½ tablet (5 mg) once daily or ¼ tablet (2.5 mg) twice daily.

OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PHYSICIAN.

SIDE EFFECTS

Very occasionally, symptoms of hypersensitivity have been reported.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Cetirizine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to it or hydroxyzine.

PRECAUTIONS

Although animal studies have not indicated adverse effects, Cetirizine, like most medications, should not be used during pregnancy nor during lactation unless in the opinion of the physician, the potential benefits outweigh any potential risk. Caution should be exercised when driving a car or operating heavy machinery.

SUPPLY

Tablet : Each box contains 10 x 10 tablets in blisters. Store in a cool & dry place protected from light. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
