Overview
Combicid Cream is a combination topical preparation containing Clobetasol Propionate 0.05%, Ofloxacin 0.75%, Ornidazole 2%, and Terbinafine 1%, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. This four-component preparation addresses bacterial, fungal, protozoal, and inflammatory components of mixed skin infections. It is indicated for mixed skin infections involving bacterial, fungal, and inflammatory components, such as infected eczema and dermatophytosis with secondary infection.
Dosage and Administration
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area twice daily (morning and evening) as prescribed by a physician. Duration of use should be limited; do not apply for more than 2 weeks without physician re-evaluation.
Interaction
Systemic absorption of clobetasol may be enhanced under occlusive dressings and on large areas. Terbinafine is a CYP2D6 inhibitor — use caution with drugs metabolised by this enzyme.
Contraindications
Avoid in viral infections (herpes, chickenpox), rosacea, acne, and perioral dermatitis. Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to any component. Do not use on eyes or mucous membranes.
Side Effects
Skin atrophy, striae, telangiectasia, and burning with prolonged corticosteroid use. Terbinafine may cause local irritation. Photosensitivity (ofloxacin component).
Pregnancy and Lactation
Use with caution in pregnancy; topical corticosteroids may cause foetal harm if used extensively. Avoid during breastfeeding if applying to breast area.
Precautions and Warnings
Limit duration of use to 2 weeks. Do not apply to face, groin, or axillae without physician direction. Avoid occlusive dressings. Not for children under 2 years of age. Protect from sun exposure on treated areas.
Storage Conditions
Store below 25°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Combicid contain four active ingredients?
Mixed skin infections often involve bacteria, fungi, and inflammatory components simultaneously; the four-component formula addresses all these to provide comprehensive treatment with a single application.
Can Combicid be used on the face?
It should not be applied to facial skin without physician direction; the potent corticosteroid (clobetasol) and antifungal components carry higher risk of adverse effects on delicate facial skin.
