Overview

Cozycol 800 mg Tablet contains Mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid), an aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory agent manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It acts locally on the intestinal mucosa to reduce inflammation. It is indicated for the induction and maintenance of remission in mild to moderate ulcerative colitis and for the treatment of Crohn's disease.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: typically 2.4–4.8 g/day in divided doses for active disease; 1.6–2.4 g/day for maintenance as prescribed. Take with or after meals.

Interaction

May reduce anticoagulant effect of warfarin. Concurrent use with azathioprine or 6-mercaptopurine may increase risk of bone marrow suppression. NSAIDs may worsen renal effects. Avoid concurrent lactulose or similar agents that alter colonic pH.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with salicylate hypersensitivity (aspirin), severe renal or hepatic impairment, and peptic ulcer disease.

Side Effects

Nausea, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and rash. Rarely, serious reactions including renal toxicity, hepatotoxicity, blood dyscrasia, and myocarditis.

Pregnancy and Lactation

May be used during pregnancy under physician supervision when benefits outweigh risks. Low levels excreted in breast milk; use with caution during breastfeeding.

Precautions and Warnings

Monitor renal function periodically during therapy. Report any unexplained bruising, sore throat, or fever. Take with food to reduce GI side effects.
