Overview
Flugal 150mg Capsule contains Fluconazole, a synthetic triazole antifungal agent. Fluconazole inhibits cytochrome P450-dependent 14α-lanosterol demethylase, an enzyme critical for ergosterol biosynthesis in fungal cell membranes, disrupting membrane integrity and producing fungistatic or fungicidal activity depending on organism and concentration. It is widely used for vaginal candidiasis, oropharyngeal infections, tinea infections, pityriasis versicolor, and onychomycosis.
Dosage and Administration
Vaginal Candidiasis: 150 mg as a single oral dose. Tinea infections (corporis, cruris, pedis): 150 mg once weekly for 4–6 weeks; tinea pedis may require up to 6 months. Pityriasis versicolor: 300 mg once weekly for 2 weeks or 150 mg weekly for 4 weeks. Onychomycosis: 150 mg once weekly for 6 months (toenail) or 3–6 months (fingernail). Oropharyngeal Candidiasis: 200 mg on day 1, then 100 mg daily for at least 14 days. May be taken with or without food.
Interaction
Warfarin: fluconazole prolongs prothrombin time — monitor closely. Sulphonylureas (glibenclamide, glipizide, tolbutamide): increased hypoglycaemic risk. Fluconazole is not recommended during pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during therapy. It is contraindicated in nursing mothers as fluconazole passes into breast milk at concentrations close to plasma levels.
