Overview

Camlodin Plus 5/50 mg Tablet contains a fixed-dose combination of Amlodipine Besilate and Atenolol, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is used in the management of hypertension and stable angina where combined calcium channel blocker and beta-blocker therapy is required.

Dosage and Administration

Usually 1 tablet once daily, with or without food, or as prescribed by the physician. Dose titration should be gradual based on blood pressure response.

Interaction

Concomitant use with other antihypertensives may potentiate hypotensive effects. Verapamil or diltiazem with atenolol may cause bradycardia or heart block. CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase amlodipine levels. Avoid grapefruit juice.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in cardiogenic shock, second- or third-degree AV block, severe bradycardia, bronchospastic disease, clinically significant aortic stenosis, and known hypersensitivity to either component.

Side Effects

Peripheral oedema, fatigue, bradycardia, dizziness, flushing, and cold extremities.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless clearly necessary and under close medical supervision.

Precautions and Warnings

Do not discontinue abruptly, especially in patients with ischaemic heart disease, as rebound angina or hypertension may occur with atenolol. Use with caution in diabetes and hepatic impairment.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why combine amlodipine with atenolol?
The combination offers complementary mechanisms — amlodipine relaxes blood vessel walls while atenolol reduces heart rate and cardiac output — providing more effective blood pressure control than either alone.

Can it be stopped suddenly?
No, particularly because of the atenolol component; abrupt discontinuation can precipitate rebound angina or hypertension. Always taper under physician guidance.
