Anzitor 40 mg Tablet

Overview

Anzitor 40 mg Tablet contains Atorvastatin Calcium, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is a statin used to lower elevated total and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with or at risk of coronary heart disease.

Dosage and Administration

Initial dose: 10-20 mg once daily, which can be adjusted by the physician up to 80 mg daily based on lipid response, usually after 2-4 weeks. May be taken at any time of day, with or without food.

Interaction

Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., certain antifungals, macrolide antibiotics), fibrates, or niacin may increase the risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Grapefruit juice in large quantities should be avoided.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in active liver disease, unexplained persistent elevations of liver transaminases, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side Effects

Myalgia, headache, gastrointestinal disturbances (constipation, flatulence, dyspepsia), and elevated liver enzymes. Rarely, myopathy or rhabdomyolysis may occur.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Contraindicated in pregnancy due to potential risk to the fetus from cholesterol synthesis inhibition; not recommended during breastfeeding.

Precautions and Warnings

Liver function tests should be performed before initiating therapy and as clinically indicated thereafter. Discontinue if myopathy is suspected or markedly elevated creatine kinase occurs.
