Cefotil 1.5gm IV Injection

Overview

Cefotil 1.5 gm Injection contains Cefuroxime Axetil, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. This higher-strength parenteral formulation is used in hospital settings for severe bacterial infections including complicated urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, septicaemia, meningitis, and peritonitis.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 1.5 g IV every 8 hours; dosing may be increased for life-threatening infections. Administer by IV injection over 3–5 minutes or by infusion over 30 minutes.

Interaction

Probenecid increases cefuroxime plasma levels. Avoid concurrent use with aminoglycosides in the same infusion line.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillins.

Side Effects

Thrombophlebitis at IV site, hypersensitivity reactions, diarrhoea, and transient liver enzyme elevations.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use only if clearly indicated during pregnancy; may be excreted in breast milk.

Precautions and Warnings

Reduce dose in renal impairment. Monitor renal and hepatic function during prolonged therapy. Reconstitute and dilute as per manufacturer instructions.

Store below 25°C, away from light. Reconstituted solutions should be used within 24 hours if refrigerated.
