Overview

Cerevas 5 mg Tablet contains Vinpocetine, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. Vinpocetine is a semi-synthetic derivative of vincamine that enhances cerebral blood flow, inhibits phosphodiesterase (PDE), and has neuroprotective properties. It is used for the symptomatic treatment of chronic cerebrovascular disorders, cognitive impairment, memory disturbances, and neurological sequelae of cerebrovascular accidents (stroke).

Dosage and Administration

Adults: initially 5 mg three times daily; may be increased to 10 mg three times daily as tolerated, as prescribed. Take with meals to improve tolerability.

Interaction

May enhance the anticoagulant effects of warfarin and other anticoagulants; monitor INR. May potentiate the hypotensive effects of antihypertensive agents.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to vinpocetine. Use is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and in severe cardiac arrhythmias.

Side Effects

Mild gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, dizziness, and facial flushing are occasionally reported. Transient hypotension may occur.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding; vinpocetine may have effects on uterine contractility. Consult a physician before use.

Precautions and Warnings

Use with caution in patients with severe coronary artery disease or cardiac arrhythmias. Monitor INR in patients on warfarin therapy. Take with food to minimise gastrointestinal effects.
