Salmolin Inhaler
DESCRIPTION
Salbutamol (Salmolin) is a b2-adrenoreceptor agonist. It is the active ingredient of Salmolin. Salbutamol relaxes the muscles in the walls of small air passages in the lungs.
Salbutamol is used in the treatment of asthma and other forms of reversible airways obstruction.
COMPOSITION
Each actuation delivers Salbutamol BP 100 mcg .
INDICATIONS
For the relief of acute bron-chospasm and for managing intermittent episodes of asthma.
For chronic maintenance or prophy-actic therapy of asthma.
To prevent exercise induced bron-chospasm.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Adults
For the relief of acute bronchospasm and for managing
intermittent episodes of asthma : 100 mcg or 200 mcg (1 or 2 inhalations) may be administered as a single dose.
For chronic maintenance or prophylactic therapy : 200 mcg (2 inhalations) 3-4 times daily.
To prevent exercise induced bron-chospasm : 200 mcg (2 inhalations) before exertion.
Children
Acute bronchospasm, in the manage-ment of episodic
asthma or exercise induced bronchospasm : 100 mcg (1 inhalation).
Routine maintenance or prophylactic therapy : 100 mcg (1 inhalation) 3-4 times daily. These doses may be increased to 200 mcg (2 inhalations) if necessary.
Elderly
The dosage is the same as for adults.
For optimum results, in most patients Salmolin Inhaler should be used regularly. The bronchodilator effects of each administration of inhaled Salmolin lasts for at least 4- 6 hours, except in patients whose asthma is becoming worse. Such patients should be warned not to increase their usage of Salmolin Inhaler, but should seek medical advice.
OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PHYSICIAN.
SIDE EFFECTS
There have been very rare reports of side effects in using
Salmolin Inhaler. Mild tremor and headache have been rarely reported. These usually disappear with continuous treatment.
Transient muscle cramping is observed slightly.
Hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema, urticaria, bron-chospasm, hypotension and collapse have been reported very rarely.
As with other inhalation therapy, the potential for paradoxical bronchospasm should be considered. If it occurs, the preparation should be discontinued immediately and alternative therapy should be instituted.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
It is contraindicated in patients hyper-sensitive to Salbutamol or any of its components.
PRECAUTIONS
Salbutamol, as with all sympatho- mimetic amines, should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders especially coronary insufficiency, cardiac arrhythmias and hypertension in patients with convulsive disorders, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes mellitus.
Hypertension in patients with convulsive disorders, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes mellitus.
Use in pregnancy
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Salbutamol should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Use in labor and delivery
Because of the potential for beta agonist interference with uterine contractility, use of Salbutamol (Salmolin)
Inhalation Aerosol for relief of bronchospasm during labor should be restricted to those patients in whom the benefits clearly outweigh the risk.
Use in lactation
It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Other short-acting sympathomimetic aerosol bronchodilators should not be used concomitantly with
Salbutamol. If additional adrenergic drugs are to be administered by any route, they should be used with caution to avoid deleterious cardiovascular effects. During use of Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors or Tricyclic
Antidepresants, Beta-blockers, Diuretics, Digoxin patients should use Salbutamol cautiously.
SUPPLY
Each canister contains 200 metered doses, each containing 100 mcg of Salbutamol BP.
