The two rules that matter most

  1. Unopened insulin → refrigerator (2–8°C). Keep spare pens/vials/cartridges in the main body of the fridge.
  2. Never freeze insulin. Freezing destroys it permanently — even once. Keep it away from the freezer compartment and the coldest back/bottom of the fridge.

Storing the insulin you're currently using

Once you start a pen or vial, most insulins can stay at room temperature for a limited number of days (commonly up to ~28 days, but it varies by brand — always check the leaflet). How to tell if insulin has gone bad
