Overview

Fona 0.1% Cream contains Adapalene, a third-generation topical retinoid used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Unlike earlier retinoids, adapalene binds selectively to specific nuclear retinoic acid receptors (RAR-β and RAR-γ) without significantly binding to cytosolic retinoid-binding proteins, which contributes to its improved tolerability profile. It modulates cellular differentiation and keratinisation processes to reduce follicular hyperkeratosis and comedone formation, while also exerting anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the oxidative metabolism of arachidonic acid and reducing chemotaxis of polymorphonuclear leukocytes.

Dosage and Administration

Apply a thin layer to the entire affected area(s) of the face and/or body once daily at night-time, after washing and drying the skin thoroughly. Use only a small amount — a pea-sized quantity is typically sufficient for the full face. Avoid applying to the eyes, lips, angles of the nose, and mucous membranes. Wash hands after application. Therapeutic results are generally seen after 8–12 weeks of regular use; continue treatment as directed by your physician. Safety and efficacy in children below 12 years of age have not been established.

Interaction

Avoid concomitant use of other topical retinoids or products with strong drying or peeling effects (e.g. products containing high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, spices, or lime).
