Rheumatology: Inflammatory and degenerative forms of rheumatism, peri-articular rheumatic disorders.

Surgery and Traumatology: Sprain, bruises, dislocations, soft-tissue injuries.

Other indications: Localized pain and inflammation where topical application is preferred over oral or injectable therapy.

Pharmacology

Diclofenac Sodium is a potent NSAID with pronounced anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties, exerting its effect through inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis, which plays a major role in causing inflammation, pain and fever.

Dosage and Administration

Diclofenac Gel: For external use only. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, 2-4 g of gel should be applied to the skin 3-4 times daily and rubbed in lightly over the affected area. This gel may also be used in addition to treatment with other dosage forms of Diclofenac.

Interaction

As a topical preparation, systemic drug interactions are minimal; however, concomitant use with other NSAIDs or systemic Diclofenac formulations should be supervised by a physician.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any ingredient of the product. The gel should not be used under occlusive airtight dressings.

Side Effects

Clofenac Gel may cause local irritation and reddening of the skin, and occasionally skin rash. Systemic side effects are rare with topical use.
